Q & A

Q: How long does it take to complete a piece?

A: If the piece doesn't require a lot of details, it takes me roughly 2-3 weeks. If it is a larger or more detailed work, it may take 3-4 weeks. Keep in mind that I have other clients that may be ahead of you also. I also have 2 other jobs and it sometimes takes me longer than it used to to complete a commission, so please be patient. People who have specific deadlines (like holidays, birthdays, etc.) also take precedence.

Q: How much does it cost to commission you to draw me a portrait?

A: It depends on the size. The most requested sizes are 8 x 10, 9 x 12 and 11 x 14. Currently, an 8 x 10 is $175 and the larger the piece is, the more the price increases. I also offer custom sizes.

Q: Do I need to send you a photo to use for reference?

A: Yes, this is very important. I prefer you email me a clear, high resolution photo. Please DO NOT send screen shots! These are normally not very clear. The clearer, the better, but I can work from more out of focus and blurry  images depending on what I am drawing.

Q: Can you draw, for example, 3 people on one piece of paper using 3 separate reference photos?

A: Yes!

Q: When do I pay for the piece?

A: I ask for payment the day I start your pieces and you can decide if you want to put half down and half upon completion, or pay all of it up front.

Q: Do you accept different forms of payment?

A: Yes! I accept Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, check or *cash (*if we meet in person.)

Q: Do you offer matting and framing?

A: Yes! Matting is included in the price for each piece. Framing is an extra cost.

Q: What color mat do you use?

A: I use primarily use white, black with black core, black with black core, and navy blue. However, I can obtain other colors. I use a removable adhesive on the artwork to attach to the matboard so you can carefully remove the art and change the matboard if you wish!

Q: If I want  a portrait done in time for someone's birthday, will you have it done in time?

A: If you commission me well in advance, yes. At least 4 weeks in advance.

Q: Can I see progress photos of my commissioned work?

A: Yes! If you would like, I can send you weekly updates via email or other outlet. If you want it to be a complete surprise, we can do that, too.

Q: What do I get with my drawing?

A: I package frameless artwork in archival plastic and put it in a frame box or a flat box secure with bubble wrap, peanuts, etc. Framed artwork is not wrapped in plastic but boxed the same way. You will also get a certificate of authenticity to the back of your artwork (on the frame or foam board.) This packet is removable and won't damage the foam board or frame. Inside the packet are also some business cards so you can tell your friends about my work :-)

Q: Do you ship finished artwork?

A: Yes (see above) I can also hand deliver if you live near me. I do not ship overseas. All packages come with tracking which I will send to you.
